Alright, so i just re-read this and realised maybe there's a depth to it i might as well share.
The Cat goes out to explore. A drunken crazed guy yells at the cat. This is like some controlling, overbearing father-like being, right? "Felix, get inside right now". Is the Cat the guy-owner's inner child? or a remnant of his former self??? HMMM!!! it gets deeper... Alarmed, this innocent creature asks it's owner for help. ( Weak part of self asking for guidance/shelter from strong part of self...higher self) The lost 'child' is to come back. The self is to be made whole.
Even after his wife tells him, (at least we think it's his wife yelling from the side) the old guy still thinks this 'FELIX' (former self) exists. He can't even recognise the cat he is yelling at. This cat is basically 4 or 5 levels up from being this 'felix' he feels he needs to control.
He didn't even know he'd died years ago and moved forward.
Everything must grow and change, and the ones who are stubborn enough to deny this only certain thing are set to suffer, and recognise nothing as things are.
The End.
I'm amazed that came to me. There's possibly much more in there though, right? If you find anything, let me know.
There's also the motherly figure, so sure that Treadcote will come around, and return back home... It'd be cool if he overcame his fears of being alone and fending off for himself, and found his own way, instead of returning back to his parents.
yes! the mother indeed... although, i don't see the cat as being actual offspring of the two, just a representation of their careless curious selves. i like your additions though...
